Customer Reviews:
A great series and a great story
I must have read a different book to the other reviewers! I really enjoyed this book as much as the others in the series. If you liked the other books by Ringo in this series then I would recommend this too.

Also try Watch on the Rhine, the German episode of the Posleen invasion, an excellent "spin-off" I just hope he continues with the planned Japanese story too but what about a British one? We stopped the invasion at the Scottish borders apparently!!
Dry
It's a shame, I really love John Ringo's collaborative series with David Weber, (March Upcountry, et. al.) but the posleen series leaves me feeling unimpressed and generally bored.

His characters strike me as dull and card-board cutouts. I did enjoy the first book, and I have to honestly say that I will be re-reading it sometime soon, but all teh sequels just disappointed me. I've given up on this series.

But regardless of what you think of this series, the March Upcountry, (Prince Roger) series is fantastic and certainly shows John Ringo at what I believe is his best.

Good ending, but read the first three books before this one.
This book rather makes up for the abrupt ending of the previous one in the series. There is a hint that the author was burning out on the series, but I felt that he established a good stopping point with a promise of more to come, although future installments will undoubtedly be going on a new track.
There are shortcomings here, but I felt a stronger intensity which compensates for the shortcomings. The primary characters are interesting enough for most of us to want to know more. Pappy O'Neal, Cally, Mike especially are good, but I hope to also see more of Shari, Anne Elgars, Tom Sunday & Wendy also.

I don't down Ringo for cutting WHEN THE DEVIL DANCES short, and making a shorter book as an addendum to bring us to an intermission. His writing reveals his own military background. 9/11 had to be especially traumatic for him and undoubtedly affected his whole thinking on the war situation.

In this concluding volume, he gives us all the ground war action and description one could hope for while establishing the more personal threads in each character's life.

I do hope the wait for future volumes isn't too awfully long, and am quite interested in seeing how he shifts our attention more and more to the Darhel. Contrary to one of the reviews, we were given hints in the first book that indeed, they are the true enemy. And that's a story I will enjoy reading.

Disappointing
Great series, loved each and every book.. apart from this one. It felt rushed (I read it in one night, so eager was I to see how the humans could defend the American interior), the author appears to have been in a hurry to end the series and so he does, leaving you feeling ever so slightly cheated.
