Customer Reviews:
Good workout, impossible diet
I have now owned this book for sometime, and tried to follow the plan several times. First the good points - the workouts are progressive, based on training 3 days per week which I found achievable. The negative aspects of this plan however are the diet (low fat sausages 6 mornings a week AND for one evening meal, with turkey and/or tuna sanwiches every day) is too restricted, there is a lack of fruit and vegetables and finally, a lack of CV work. Needless to say I failed to complete the plan for the 9 week duration, and feel that most people will find this plan difficult to follow
A bit biased, but could be effective
It seems to me that this book is written from a biased point of view. The author is a body builder who seems to go little aerobic exercise and eats meat. The book is leaning (or to be more precise bending right over) to say that his way of living is perfect. He ridiculed runners, says vegetarians are wrong and weight training is right. His research is well done, but he ignores some evidence to make his point.

I failed on the diet, mainly due to my own failure so I cannot attack the diet. I would have liked him to give a vegetarian meal plan, but he decided to ignore his own research that some vegetarian protein sources were almost as good as meet (Soya for example).

Also, saying that running is bad seems a bit drastic. He seems to imply that it is good for a person to not be fit enough to run a mile. I am not an expert, but I am sure that an exercise routing that included a reasonable balance between aerobic and non-aerobic exercise would be better.

Over all I think the guy is trying too much to prove he is the perfect man. He may have a bit too much testosterone running though his body. Having said that, he seems to know his stuff and his conclusions are sound. If he was a bit more open minded and impartial it would have been a better book, but as it is it is okay

It really does work...
Yes, it really does. Perhaps not to the dramatic extent of some of the book's models, but you didn't really expect that did you? In short, I'm 6foot2 and went from over 14 stone 9 to 13 stone 11 in 9 weeks. The programme allowed me to eat great food and actually had me doing less exercise than I had been doing previously. Best of all, I continued to drink alcohol (which the book bans) and still saw the benefits.

The book's success is down to the fact that the exercise and nutrition is spelt out for you so there's little danger of slipping, combined with the reduced calorie diet. However, the fact that you can consume less calories but eat more food is presumably down to the magic of Testosterone!

It's not perfect and not easy. You need some commitment to stick to the food plan, although this becomes easier, and the plan's dietary figures didn't agree with my local Sainsbury's but this is mere detail. Stick broadly to the food plan, do the exercise and you really will change the look of your body.

Now I just need to keep it up!

GOOD BOOK/BAD DIET
I'VE BEEN ON THIS DIET/EXERCISE PROGRAM NOW FOR SEVEN WEEKS AND TO BE TOTALLY HONEST,I HAVE HARDLY LOST ANY WEIGHT AT ALL.THE EXERCISE PROGRAM IS VERY GOOD AND HAS TAUGHT ME TO USE THE GYM CORRECTLY AND TO BE FAIR TO THE AUTHORS I HAVE SEEN A SMALL CHANGE IN MY APPEARENCE,BUT THIS IS DUE TO THE HARD (AND IT IS) WORK I HAVE PUT INTO THE GYM.THE DIET IS OK TO FOLLOW BUT THERE IS FAR TOO MUCH COTTAGE CHEESE AND AFTER A MONTH THE DIET FELT AS THOUGH IS WAS BECOMING VERY REPETITIVE.IN 7 WEEKS I HAVE LOST ABOUT 5/6 LBS WHICH I DON'T THINK IS ENOUGH FOR A DIET THAT DOES COST QUITE A LOT TO KEEP UP.OVERALL,THE BOOK IS INFORMATIVE AND THE EXERCISES ARE GOOD BUT THE DIET DID NOTHING FOR ME. (AND I FOLLOWED IT STRICTLY!)
Disappearing Gut!!
An excellent well written, and easy to understand diet, and exercise combination.
I can honestly say I have never eaten so much, and I was supposedly on a diet. My aim was to lose the inches around my middle, but to retain my weight, something I never believed would happen. After 3 months I have gone from verging on a 36inch waist to a comfortable 32inch.
I am not a great gym goer, so the majority of the excercises I did at home, and the food I was eating didn't have a lengthy preperation time.
In short there are 3 diets you can follow, Fat loss only, Fat loss, and muscle gain, or muscle gain only. There are easy to follow step by step guides, and diet plans. I am sure, I like most men did not realise the complexity of Testosterone, and that men SHOULD eat fat, and protein to sustain a healthy lifestyle. An excellent book.
