Ride Like the Wind

I think Patricia Leitch is one of the best, if not the best author of pony books. This is the eigth out of twelve in the 'Jinny' series and sees Jinny faced with the prospect of leaving the home she loves and being forced to move back to the city. Like all of Leitch's books, particularly the Jinny series, it deals with themes much greater than are normally found in books of this genre. Instead it is about the fear of having your world turned upside down and the powerlessness of being young. Think Harry Potter, rather than Pullein-Thompson. Jinny is an amazingly strong character, who in the end is really saved by her own will and determination not to be beaten, as well as by the magic force that always surrounds her and Shantih. It would be an inspiration to anyone who has ever been faced with difficulty in life. I read this book as a child and I enjoy it just as much as an adult. The scene at the end of the book, in the sea, is one of the most moving I have ever read. No ordinary pony book!
