Still Some of the Best Children's Stories
|
The Tale of Peter Rabbit was written in 1900 and has stood the test of time very well. Generations of children have loved the story and treasured the books of Beatrix Potter. It is up there among the greats of children's literature with Wind in the Willows, The Water Babies, Peter Pan, Treasure Island and many others.
In these days of computer games and electronic toys of one kind or another, books sadly are sometimes not as high on the list as they were a few years ago, perhaps that is why literacy in schools is not all that it could be. Personally as a child books were always my first love and Christmas would not have been the same without a Rupert annual.
Stories that involve animals as the main characters in books always seem to fascinate young children and Peter Rabbit has always been up there with the best. Next time you have to buy a present for a child, or even want to treat one of your younger grandchildren for no particular reason. Instead of looking for the latest DVD why not buy them a book. Peter Rabbit is a good one to start with. This particular set is expensive but is an investment that will be treasured and passed down the family.

Beatrix Potter Complete Tales
|
This is a stunning book, to keep and of course, to read. It comes in its own covering to keep special, the drawing inside are spectacular and so, so beautiful. What mother couldn't love turning the pages of this beautiful book as she turns the pages to read to her children. This is one I will keep very, very special and one day hand down to my own children. There is another version of this in individual books which is lovely but, to have this in one complete collection is truly adorable. Well worth the money and a great price from Amazon!

Great value and beautiful book

I bought this for my new god-daughter's christening primarily because I couldn't afford £80 for the set of individual books. I was delighted with the book - it's in a presentation case which looks great, the illustrations are exactly as in the original books and all in all it's a terrific present. Incredible value and highly recommended!

Great for long car journeys.

I suppose it would be difficult to produce Beatrix Potter audio tapes badly, but also difficult to produce them well, reflecting the astonishing variety of characters and situations. This collection of tapes is produced beautifully. The voices are as good as they come, the investment in truly great voice talents paying dividends at every turn. They captivate my eight and five year olds alike, and are more than enjoyable for me when whiling away a long car journey. Especially useful is the faithful adherence to the original stories, allowing the children to follow the words in the matching book, if available. The only quibble I have is that the packaging is rather plain and boring for children. An enclosed booklet and perhaps some illustrations would be the finishing touch.

Capturing her talents as a writer and illustrator
|
|
This book includes all of the original Peter Rabbit books, as they are called, plus four unpublished works. Showing Beatrix Potter's true excellence as a writer and illustrator, The Complete Tales includes some of the lesser known tales (The Tale Of Little Pig Robinson) and features two nursery rhyme stories (Appley Dapply and Cecily Parsley's Nursery Rhymes). Each tale has a special introduction which makes The Complete Tales even better. When Beatrix died in December 1943, I bet she never thought that in 2001 her books would still be read with fascination and sell millions each year. Beatrix Potter remains one of the country's best loved writers and most talented authors.
