a thoughtful comparison between western and buddhist thought

Despite being perhaps not the best introductory book to either of the topics compared, the Monk and the Philosopher is an excellent guide to the divergence and similarities in thought between the east and the west, the book is written by two thinkers with distinguished education in western logical thought, and the resulting logical analysis of buddhism is interesting without being boring or pedantic. Also though the book buddhism never loses its shine and is never reduced to just a system of thought, but is represented as a very alive and accessible method of spiritual cultivation. An interesting and insiteful book.
