This is again another excellent introductory text. More up to date that the authors previous book 'Earth'. If you have read 'Earth' you will find the chapters broadly similar, but with a lot of the material rearranged (eg the chapters on the hydrological cycle and rivers). Nice use of colour diagrams (improvement over 'Earth'). The only problem that I found was trying to find certain bits of information from 'Earth' in 'Understanding Earth'. Whilst this maybe nitpicking somewhat, certain 'classic' pieces should be included unless deemed totally wrong.
