If you are browsing this book then you are keen on improving your skills. Good for you.
This book is really good. Buy it and you wont regret it.
The reason I didnt give it a 'five' is that because you would expect more in-depth exercies and recommendations.
But still it's a really nice start on the way to speed reading.
Do we really need this potboiler?
I don't think this bite-sized book, which is merely comprised of superficial messages, can help improve your reading speed dramatically. It's more like a booklet by which the author uses to advertise his training courses on speed reading. If you genuinely think you need helps about how to read faster, consult others and give this book a pass.
a book to explain one simple idea
I read all the other comments before I bought the book, I hoped that my reading speed would increase as much as the others claimed. However I must say I am very disappointed. I have read most of the book now, and I also followed most of the steps faithfully, but my reading speed hasn't increased significantly at all. I really want to know how the others did it. All this book has taught me was to read more words in one "visual fixation", and avoid looking back. To me this is common sense, but somehow the book made the same idea sound 100 times more intellectual and innovative. I think it's basically the same thing, and you don't need to purchase a book to tell you that.
Very quick results. Definitely worth a try.
I've only had this book a day, but already I've doubled my reading speed (from 400 words/min to 800wpm) while maintaining the same level of comprehension (60%). The later chapter that deals with comprehension looks a little light on detail, but heres hoping it give similar results. This series of books is well worth checking out.
Practice makes perfect!? It will make you faster.
Ok, your reading speed does increase, but only after tedious training. The author himself says at one point: "reading to the mind is like aerobic training to the body". Only practice makes perfect.
The good side of the book is that it is very well set out and is presented in managable chunks.
Furthermore, it is an enjoyable read as you learn alot about how your reading system works. However, in order to increase your reading speed you must do the exercises and be patient.
As concerns reading speed: mine increased 100 words per minute in a day and is currently at around 500 wpm. Though I am sceptical about the "more retention" part as little time is given at high speeds to process information and actually understand what is written.
VERDICT: it's a must read if you are actually keen on incresing your reading speed. But you must read the book with a `pinch of salt ` to avoid disappointment.
If you can`t be bothered or are sceptical then don't bother. Practice makes perfect, but no-one's perfect, so why practice?
