Warm, colourful and informative

This book serves as an excellent learning aid for students studying with The Jitsu Foundation or any one of the branches of Shorinji Kan Jiu Jitsu.
Rather than taking the common approach of a very dry instructional manual, this book (and indeed the series) present the techniques in a wider context of the training experience. Alongside sections explaining the the history of the art, why you might choose it, what to expect, and details of the techniques, are amusing and sometimes touching anecdotes from practitioners of the art. Especially encouraging for novices and lower grades will be the fact that these anecdotes from less experienced jiu jitsuka.
The techniques are clearly present in colour photographs throughout, and explained with reference to the dojo environment and also a self-defence context. Techniques covered include breakfalling, arm locks, wrist locks, ground holds, throws and weapon defences amongst others.
The book won't teach you the art alone, but it will certainly serve as an invaluable reference if you're already training with the Jitsu Foundation or perhaps inspire you to start!
