Hard to make the history of power interesting but this book does it and does it very well. You'll need to be interested in power, probably you work in a technical capacity but even if you don't it's well written and brilliantly researched. I found it compelling in it's historical content and tantalising with respect to the future. Examining our attitudes to power and conservation and the results of our gluttony it is a thought provoking and slightly worrying thesis. Asks more questions than it answers but that is the nature of the subject at hand. Recommended.

Brilliant book on the search for free energy

I absolutely loved this book and thought it was a riveting topic, all the more so because the science illuminates human psychology so compellingly. The book has all the makings of a great scientific soap opera with greed, mendacity, murder, betrayal, turf wars, misunderstood genius and fear of the unknown all very much to the fore. I began to wonder if there was some kind of cosmic curse on the search for free energy! Arthur C. Clarke is right in saying this book is fascinating and amusing.
