Compelling, Exciting, Informative !

A brutally honest account of the authors time in the RLI, prior to Zimbabwe's independence. Sometimes shocking, sometimes sad. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and cannot recommend it enough. I will definitely be reading the sequel.

Excellent account of the Rhodesian War.

Knew nothing whatsoever about Rhodesia before I read this superb account, which really grabs the imagination. This is even better than the best Vietnam material and has left me fascinated by the subject and anxious to find out more. Very good accounts of battle and military operations.

A rare account of a largely forgotten conflict

Although not as broad in scope as Peter Godwin's 'Mukiwa', this a nontheless compelling account of the war in Rhodesia, which charts very well the inexorable growth in its intensity and savagery from 1976 - 1980. A must for all Zimbabweans

Excellent - I will recommend this to everyone

Born in Rhodesia and then went to school in Zimbabwe, where nothing much was ever said of our country's recent history and definitely never taught at school! So this book filled in many gaps for me. Besides that, I thought the way Chris Cocks writes and the way he approached "difficult" subjects was superb - this is definitely the best book I have ever read. I am busy reading his sequel "Survival Course" and that seems to be at least as good as his first, if not better (and no, im not getting paid to write this!) Thankyou very much
