Culture shock

This book, which includes mostly short stories written by American writers, is a nice cross section of American worries, obsessions and conflicts. Which, apparently, are too many: from a complete outsider's point of view (last time I ws there was in 97), it shows a decaying society, with people isolated from friends and family, fighting out for psychological survival. Which, I guess, is interesting.
Besides, most writers in the compilation stand out on their own. Miranda July's story is beautiful and poignant, "Selling the general", by Jennifer Egan, is probably the best of the bunch. All in all, good to read, even if you're American (or not)
