Only pinyin, no characters

The book is quite useful, but with a huge blemish: the Chinese translation of words and phrases is given only in pinyin (the official transcription system) but NOT in Chinese characters. Thus, you will learn how to pronounce them but you will have no chance to read or write them. Sounds a bit tricky, but those who have a knowledge of Chinese language know what I'm talking about.
If you accept this premise, the book is pretty good and satisfying.
