As good as Immediate Action

Mike Curtis spent many years in the SAS and writes candidly and engagingly about it here covering; selection, the Gulf, Bosnia and numerous exercises. The book includes a certain amount about his life before the SAS (rudby, the coal pits, his personal life and 2 Para...) but don't let that put you off - in fact I found this added immensely to the book in its own right, not just because it paints the picture of the man at the centre of the story but because it contextualises the SAS chapters of his life very well. Well-written, interesting and anyone with any interest in military history, or simply in a great read about a true warrior, cannot fail to find Curtis' accounts of the Falklands from a para Tom's point of view fascinating. I've read quite a few books by the usual crowd and would say it is; much more engagingly personal than Chris Ryan's "One that got away", similar in content and style to McNab's "Immediate Action" and broader in context and coverage than Cameron Spence's "Sabre Squadron". Highly recommended.

An honest book about the SAS

I have read lots of books about the SAS. I find its history very interesting and its successes and accomplishments unbeatable in the world of special forces. C.Q.B. is an honest story of one mans life and time in the army. A bit bitter in the end, but you can't blame him, because of the way his career ended. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in the SAS.
