Not as good as expected.

York Notes do have some titles which are certainly of a good standard and worthwhile, but this one really misses the mark. Mostly waffle, it makes some absurd comments with a lot of unnecessary jargon thrown in, presumably, to raise some literary cedibility. Students, beware. Try Derwyn Rees Jones for some excellent Duffy commentary.

Stupendous - just what any serious student of Duffy needs.

This is an excellent introduction to the poetry of Carol Ann Duffy. It deals with all her published collections and is undoubtedly invaluable in guiding the reader through themes, poetic technique and use of language. This book also has useful sections including detailed analyses of individual poems, the context of the poet's work and Duffy's influences. These notes will interest the general reader as well as undergraduate, Advanced level and GCSE students. All the poems in the NEAB GCSE "Anthology" are covered. Don't miss this book - it is a bargain.
