I would not normally buy tomes of this size, but this text being essential course reading for a recent period of study was a 'must have', and once bought became an indispensible item for use during the study and since. I was very impressed by the clarity and readability of the pages finding them to be set out well, using boxed areas, icons, bullet points and a case study approach within the chapters. Additionally the questions at the end of each chapter provided useful reflection and revision of my reading, and helped ensure that I remembered what I had read. Use of the blue and black type was helpful, easy on the eye and encouraged me to focus on important points, and the many diagrams are clear and easy to understand. The contents page was especially clear and helpful, as were the drug tables throughout the book. The book groups drugs according to their pharmacological effects, their actions and the conditions they are used to treat which is away from the traditional systematic approach. It has certainly helped deepen my knowledge of the principles of pharmacology in a non threatening enjoyable way. Additionally the associated website was extremely useful and provided links to specific subjects.
