An excellent grammatical grounding

The classic French textbooks Whitmarsh produced in the sixties were used in classrooms across the country for decades. While modern, inferior textbooks such as "Encore Tricolore!" concentrate on pictures and phrases, Whitmarsh gives a solid grounding in the French grammar that is of such use when taking the language to a higher level. I highly recommend this textbook - it is a pity that the rest of his works are out of print.
