Excellent book - get it!

I used the first edition of this book way back in 1975/6 (yes 1975/6!) when I was studying Nuffield A level Physics and Chemistry. My wife recently did an Open University Natural Sciences degree and I urged her to get this (updated) edition and it has been excellent. I don't know why it hasn't been publicised more widely for other syllabuses or just for general use. It has most of the equations and formulae in it that you are likely to need for physics, chemistry and maths, and lots of useful data for 'estimating' such as diameter of the sun, mass of the universe, length of the QE2 and other priceless gems!

Uni bio student's point of view

|
I did the Nuffield A level course and found this book extremely useful then. And my chemisrty teacher did say he had ex students come back to him all the time asking if he could get them a copy. And coming to university I understand why. Once you've gotten used to the book it's so easy to find the information you want,it's so clearly layed out and understandable. As a biology student at uni I didn't really think I'd need much from my old A level books, but entering the second year and looking at things in far greater detail I do wish I had it now. Chemistry and biology at university level require detailed knowledge of atoms and molecules, and their interactions, all of which you can find and deduce from this book. It probably would have been useful in the first year too.

Data Tables

The Nuffield Book of Data was massively useful when I was studying for A-levels. Just wish I brought a copy to uni. I'm sure the teachers wouldn't have minded.

Really useful, for the As level course and beyond
|
|
Ok, i know this is mainly a school textbook, and how exciting can they be? But trust me this book is really useful when studying for A levels. The data is clealy laid out with useful explainations near by. All that data could easily seem overwhleming but thanks to this great book it appears in mainagble tables that are clear and consise. The clear quick find index at the back means you'll never not be able to find something and whats more with all that information you can complete extra examples that will further your understanding of a topic. It is particulally useful if studing the Nuffield course as there are constant references to items in the data book and for many of the review questions you will need the data book.
