I am currently learning Spanish by myself, but am about to enrol in a class to take GCSE next Summer. I like the way that the book is organised into the "What do you know" and "What have you learnt" sections; although after having completed "Teach Yourself Spanish" I got many questions right, having to do the exercises before revising the topic really helps you to work out where the gaps in your knowledge are and I think that this method helps you to learn better, as you concentrate on the areas you need to more. It is well organised, and follows the syllabus closely. The first 8 (I think) chapters concentrate on main topics, and then at the end of the book there is an advanced section for people who are looking to get the higher grades. Therefore, if you're doing only foundation tier, you needn't bother with this section and learn stuff which you needn't use. And no, I'm not on commission! Lastly, it's good for teachers too, as the answer section at the back is perforated, so can easily be removed if desirable (or, in my case, if you want to stop yourself from cheating when doing the exercises!).
