Annoyingly absent

The genius of Marcus Brigstocke is brought to life through the travel exploits of Giles Wemmbley Hogg. I loved the Radio 4 programs when it first came out and have therefore purchased this CD (Giles Wemmbley Hogg Goes Off)to listen to again and again. For the genius of the comedy alone it is worth 5 stars. However, this particular 2 disc CD set is one of the offerings from the BBC Radio Collection, and very typically and very annoyingly the BBC has only bothered to put on 4 episodes of the original radio series.
On CD 1:
Episode 1 - The Sudan
Episode 3 - Bolivia
On CD 2:
Episode 4 - The Arctic
Episode 6 - Thailand
Why do the idiots at BBC think we wouldn't be interested in episodes 2 and 5? This is a particular trait of BBC Audio productions who quite often do not put on the entire series, which is absolutely ridiculous. For this reason I have only given it 4 stars, because it is missing those episodes. The 4 that BBC did bother to put on the disc are brilliant.

I first heard the genius comedy creation of Marcus Brigstocke on The Now Show in 1999 and he has only got funnier since. This selection from the first series showcases the wonderful ineptitude and inadvertent hilarity of Giles Wemmbley Hogg as he travels the world. Jolly well hope that the second and third series make it to CD in the near future! I cannot recommend this enough - your CD player deserves this sitting in it!

Giles Wemmbley Hogg is the Bertie Wooster of the new Millenium. And answers the question- "how would Bertie survive without Jeeves?" And after 6 years of consistant bullying at Charterhouse, he's as thick skinned as a rhino. By being the perfect upper middle class idiot, he brilliantly shows up the sanctimonious Western do-gooders he sails past on his travels. This is a brilliantly funny and skilled comedy, and deserves to be an icon of the age. No, really.

I bought this CD in a charity shop a few months back after hearing the first broadcast of the 2nd series on radio 4 in 2003. Giles is such a twit and it's pure comedy, the ending to the final episode is very heart-warming too. The real comedy here lies in the taking the mickey out of the students who think they're above everyone, it's just hilarious. BUY THIS CD! I'm just waiting for series 2!

The great Marcus Brigstock's creation lays waste to four more countries as gap year student Giles Wemmbley-Hogg (2 ems, 2 gees) bumbles around the world. Very funny and with some great catchphrases - This is my story; I'll have to ask... Why this hasn't gone to tv is one of life's great mysteries.
