Classic Punt and Dennis
|
It always mystifies me as to why so little material by Punt and Dennis has been released onto DVD or CD. Their news-based humour may well be topical but it rarely dates. Indeed, their banter, jokes and sketches often remind you of past events and the inherent daftness of 'real news'. This was always true of their 'Bad Week' radio series - but it is equally true of of 'The Now Show'.
The jokes and sketches are fast-paced and well written. There is slightly more use of music and song in 'Now' than in 'Bad Week', but it is always of a high standard and is never stretched too far. (The take-off of a 'typical' song from a 'typical' new musical in the West End is achingly accurate). As ever, Hugh Dennis' voice characterisations are superb. This is most notable in the wonderful sketch about trains' failing' when he voices an announcer who points out that the rail company "does not tolerate failure".
If you like Punt and Dennis, then you'll really enjoy this double CD.
