it's (not) grim up north

I picked this book up hoping it would be a funny light hearted read, that highlights the qualities of northern live, aswell as highlighting the fact that the t.v seems to forget any other part of the country exists. Judith Holder and a whole host of celebrity friends did just that. All in all a good light read, not to be taken too seriously, but all good fun.

True to some degree

I bought this book having only seen one episode of the BBC series and being a northern ex-pat myself. The book is a humourous, if entirely subjective examination of the north-south divide. Many of the observations rang true and evoked memories of northern customs and characteristics. However, the north-south divide is certainly disappearing in terms of property prices, making the north a less attractive prospect than might have been previously. I also suspect that many of the celebrities interviewed now live in the south and I take issue with the author that Cornwall and Devon are part of the honorary north. To me, they are definitely in the south and do not share northern customs. A light read, suitable to be passed on to fellow northerners but I don't think southerners would appreciate this book at all.
