A light on the life of Hyacinth Bucket

This book is a must for any Hyacinth Fans, it actually gives us an insight as to how she sees herself and her life. It details one year in her life as she believes that Richard is having an affair with a woman that he was spotted with. It shows what she really thinks of Daisy, Rose and of course Onslow (not much but hey they are family) and naturally the sister she actually talks about Violet the one with the room for a pony and not forgetting her cross-dressing husband!!who she does not talk about in public. Her darling son Sherridan is discussed in her diary and he can never do anything wrong and always seems to be after money. Her father as always seems to be getting in trouble and going off to war etc...and after the ladies!! Which Richard and Onslow have to sort out. The one thing this book actually has that the television series did not seem to mention is the fact that they own an apartment in an old mansion which they use as their weekend retreat, of course they can mix with the well to do there including a major who has an unfortunate accident, And the main thing that hyacinth is well known for the 'candle light dinnner parties' with which the numbers attending seem to shrink as the book goes on throughout the year, Hyacinth as always does not seem to realise this and just carries on as normal. I would recommend this book to keeping up appearances fans who want to delve more into the life of Hyacinth, if you are not a true fan you would probably not enjoy the book as much as bigger fans would, yet it is still a good read.
