Having heard Al Read on a Radio 2 series a couple of years ago, I put this double tape on my Christmas list and have been very pleased with it. For anyone amused by Northern humour, this is a must. Al's portrayal of characters such as the Johnny Know All and the Henpecked Husband are both true to life and a joy to listen to (although I'm sure these characters are not unique to the North of England!). The little boy in the doctor's waiting room reminded me of my young self - you never could shut me up! The tales Al tells are daft and far fetched - as are the best comedy tales - but I found myself visualising the scenes, which enhanced the humour of the shows and had me laughing even more. One of those shows when you wish it won't end, but unfortunately it does - so I'm looking forward to Volumes 2 & 3. They'll be next on my list!
