What is this?
|
This is the most inadequate product description ever, and the customer reviews make the confusion even worse! The title suggests that these are NEW, original episodes written specifically for Radio 4 and have nothing to do with the tv series. However, there's no actors listed, and the customer reviews all refer to it as a "book" and seem to imply that they're the same material as the tv series.
Is this product:
a. a radio adaptation of the TV episodes?
b. an audio-book of the book adaptation of the series ("The Diaries of the Rt. Hon. James Hacker" or whatever it's called)?
c. new original episodes not based on the TV screenplays and written for broadcast on Radio 4?
Can any of the previous reviewers or someone from Amazon clarify?

Still relevant over 20 years on.

I believe the previous reviewers have neatly summarised my own feelings, but, I must add, as an employee of the Australian Public (Civil) Service, both the book and the show have additional relevance with regards to my employment situation. It is hard not to read the book or watch the shows without sensing an air or familiarity, in which case the book/show becomes almost an indictment, albeit a very humorous one. Strongly recommended, especially for those seeking a humorous yet accurate representation of the workings (machinations and manipulations), as nonsensical as they are, of a large Government Department.

Smashing!

Fantastic book! Very entertaining, stands on its own as a book without the TV series. Well written, with snippets from "files" and BBC new "scripts" chucked in here and there for good measure. Well worth a read!

Still spot on...

Even after all these years it is impossible not to see the parallels. Truly the sign of great comedy. Buy this and its companion - Yes Prime Minister. Very highly recommended, even alongside the TV series.

Any fan of the series would love this set. It is hilariously funny and witty - the content just doesn't seem to date! Watching the television series I missed many of the more subtle digs but found that with these CD's I was able to concentrate on the speach and as a result have a much deeper appreciation for the superb script. Highly recommended.
