As a new mother to an ever more alert 12 week old baby, I have been at my wits end as to how provide my daughter with stimulation. . . how many times can a baby find watching a rattle pass from left to right, right to left interesting??? So, naturally, I was intrigued by the title of this book - and I have not been disappointed! Set out in a very reader-easy format, this book uses a three step format to introduce a subject; firstly, 'news-flashes' highlight an area of infant developement. This is then followed up with in depth discussion (of say, motor skills), finally, 'hints' are given on how to encourage and nuture the relevant developmental stage through play, with different suggestions for infants of different ages. Playtime is now much more fun for baby and me, and I have been amazed at how my baby really has looked as though she is 'problem solving' when faced with the puzzle of how to make her mobile move (a piece of ribbon attached to the mobile and baby!) . . . The information conveyed within the book may not be new (anyone who has read a baby book must know that babies will poke their tongue out in mimicry), but the hints for stimulating play are excellent and certainly have the Megan seal of approval!!!
