A book that has left a lasting impression

I first read Never Cry Wolf when I was about 10 or 12, and it is a book I have reread every five years or so since. At the time it changed my opinion of wolves from a typical "bloodthirty scarey creatures" to a more rounded opinion. Mowat's unscientific techniques and his dry sense of humour liven up the book and make it an entertaining, as well as an informative, read. It is also a case-in-point of how men have blamed other animals for their own depredations - in this case the wolves were being blamed for the sudden slaughter of Canadian caribou in the 1960s. (This same thing still happens today - seals are blamed on the Scottish coast for the sudden disappearance of large fish stocks. Hmmm.) "Never Cry Wolf" has been one of my all-time-favourite books - I could recommend it to both adults and teenagers.

If you are looking for a good adventure in the nature book, this is it. Those who like dry humor will find it great. Aside from being wonderfully hilarious, it also shows a deeper perspective on the wolf-human relationship and the sad misconception about the typical stereotype of the wolf. Farley Mowatt truly is a great writer; his novels about animals show a man of great talent. However, I recommend this book to teens and adolescents, rather than adults. So if you are over 20, don't bother.

A good book for only some readers, I liked it.

I personally liked this book. I thought it was well written and it managed to interest me for the most part thoroughout the whole novel. I am a Freshman in High School and I was able to find this book easily readable, you just have to get into it, then you will like it. However, I may just find this book interesting because I just read A Separate Peace by John Knowles -(Not a very exciting book). The best part about Never Cry Wolf is that it is all a true story.

A clever and fun adventure

I gave Never Cry Wolf 5 stars beacuse it gave you an intimate relationship with wolves, not their blood thirsty myth. The wolf is not a blood thirsty kill everything in sight lone working creatures, but great parents, are wily, curios, clever,and intielligent. Another aspect I enjoyed about the book is it's portrayl with the wolves. The eskimos respect and will never harm wolves, and some may even be able to communicate with wolves. You will also enjoy Farley Mowats re-lived adventure. 'Never Cry Wolf' is a great book and you will not regret reading it.

This was an extremely witty and suprising book. People with dry humor (or enough intelligence to catch irony)will find it hilarious! Great book, changes your perspective on wolves.
