Disappointing

I was gripped by the first couple of chapters but frankly was relived when I finally finished it - whilst I have no desire to take such a trip I still expected to be entertained by the book rather than desperate for them to get to the end of the trail! Sorry, but not a great read for me...
could have done with more to get my teeth into.

Sensitively written love story.

A trek along the Inca trail to Macchu Picchu in Peru. What a great holiday and a clever idea to write a novel around this theme. I had no idea that it was quite such a demanding and dangerous 60km though! I would love to be able to visit Macchu Picchu someday, but somehow I think it might be the easy way, travelling up there by train.
It is a popular expedition for youngsters on Gap years but the three friends in the novel Sasha, Nic and Katie are older married ladies with commitments. They have decided that they want to take the holiday of a lifetime and walk the Inca trail together with a guide, leaving real life behind them for awhile. On the trail they each discover that there is a lot they did not know about each other, or themselves. The almost spiritual feeling of being in such a beautiful part of the world seemed to help them 'find' themselves and discover what they really want out of life. As well as appreciating what they already have.
A sensitively written love story plus lots of interesting information about the Inca trail.

every good woman deserves these memories

Having just finished this book by Diana Appleyard it brought back a pile of memories for me. No not the fact that I had a whirl wind secrect affair, the fact that I went to Peru with a friend to walk/hike the Inca Trail. Obviously this author has experienced this first hand with her accurate and marvellous stories of ... packing bags for the trail(what to take, what not to take.) Lima and it's charms. Cusco and the markets and hotels and the extremely thin air. The walk brought back fantastic memories at various points and the reality of Dead Woman's Pass, the arrival at Bingham's discovery, Machu Picchu, the desciptions of this wonderful discovery, and the journey back. All this and a love story too. Great read. Highly recommened for those wondering if they can manage such a journey. Highly recommened for those wondering if they may find love again.
