Beardlsey deserved betterthan this
|
Aubrey Beardsley deserved better that this rather dull book. One or two factual mistakes made this book even more annoying. Back in those days, the pier mentioned at Brighton would have been the West Pier. The mentioned pier was called the Brighton Pier.... well, as a lifelong resident of Brighton, I know the only pier to be called that is the Palace Pier, as it was re-named that a few years ago. Residents still call it the Palace Pier. Strange, also, was the statement that he was a day boy at the Grammer School, and then became worried about Matron and the state of his bed..... when did he become a boarder?
The book does not flow, and I wonder just how much of this storey was invented. Yes, it is a novel rather than a biography, but did he really research this for five years before writing? One of my favourite artists deserves better.
