I liked it

I enjoyed reading this book. It was quite heart felt.
I felt for Millie and had to read on to see how she got out of her little dilemma. It sorts itself out in the end as it usually does. I like Madeleine Wickham's Style and this one is one of my favourites.

Sorry but I prefer 'Sophie Kinsella' ...

Madeleine Wickham and Sophie Kinsella are one and the same person, but the style of writing is different. I far prefer the books written under the name of Sophie Kinsella with plenty of humour, and I've read them all! This book has a lot more descriptive passages, no humour, and it takes a bit of getting into. More fast-moving after the first half of the book, so it's worth reading on ... Could add another star for the second half!

Too silly to be credible

Millie Ms Wickham's heroine is so stupid it is untrue. No matter how the author dresses up the fact the premise of the novel is unbelievable and uninteresting. She then makes a bad premise worse by adding several coincidences for the benefit of moving her plot along. At times I felt like I could either shake the heroine or give her a good talking to, which is something her godmother never managed. I felt like throwing this book away it was so boring, but I persevered and finished it, and surprise, surprise (not)the ending was obvious as well. I enjoy a lot of romantic fiction, but to me it seems essential that there is some element of reality in it - but it seemed to be absent from this one!

One to read if you're suffering pre-wedding stresses!

My fiance bought me this the week leading up to our wedding and I couldn't put it down - I read the whole book in 2.5 hours - then picked it up and read it all over again! In fact I read it 3 times in the 4 days leading up to our wedding! AND I was rushing around!! It's funny, gripping and has an unexpected twist that stopped it being predictable! Can't wait to read the others Ms Wickham has written!

A very satisfactory read!

An enjoyable story - twists unexpectedly which raises it above the usual modern heroine saga!
