Excellent book

I am what they call an "aficionado", a big fan of bullfighting. This book deals with this, admittedly, often delicate and controversial matter, in a very thoughtful way. Even if you oppose bullfighting, you will enjoy this book as it honestly explains a passion and also tells a lot about Spain and Spanish culture. Also, well-researched and engagingly written! Olé!

Fascinating and balanced
|
A very readable book that gives an honest insight into Spanish culture from a foreigner's viewpoint. The book focusses on the art of bullfighting rather than the gory elements. Whilst trying hard to be balanced it shows that the author was falling for the sport and the people, even when he was still viewed by them as an outsider. The matador comes across as a skilled dangerous sportsman like a racing driver, skydiver etc, with all the ups and downs of any sportsman performing at the highest level.
A good book for those interested in Spanish culture and wanting to make up their own mind about this controversial activity.
