This is an origional book about an inconfident girl called Rowan, from a newly broken home, who slowly becomes more confident throughout the book. Her horse, Swallow, a young, spirited pony, cannot be ridden by Rowan. When his rightful owner claims him Rowan learns that what other people think should not affect her. She finds another horse, Birdie, and finds a friend in her. But will Birdie's price stop Rowan from owning her dream horse? Rowan and all the other charachters contrast beautifully to make this book a must read for every horse loving teen, and K.M. Peyton's fluent and slightly old fashioned writing has you holding on to every word of this gripping, heart- turning story of a young girl who wants to become a great horse-rider, so that she can compete with her horse-loving friends, the Hawses. I like this book because it is not a predictable storyline and it makes you become part of the story. Don't be put off by the old-fashioned sense of this book. It's not an old fashioned, boring, classic!
