Customer Reviews:
Shopping without the bills!
I read Carmen Reid's `The Personal Shopper' and really enjoyed it so I had to read this one. I think this is probably better. Annie is much more settled and her children and partner Ed are thriving. But this isn't enough for Annie who wants her own business. Ed is more cautious and thinks it's not a good idea. Then Annie gets a £10,000 tax bill which she can't pay and can't tell Ed about. But one deception leads to another and soon Annie has booked a family holiday in Italy without telling anyone and paid for it using extra money borrowed on a mortgage. And Italy is full of brilliant fashion items which she can sell and make money . . . . The characters learn from their mistakes and are therefore more realistic than many and the book is well written and easy to read. I loved the descriptions of people's clothes which head every chapter. A great feel good read and I wonder whether there will be another to follow?
Fantastic Summer Read!
I absolutely loved this book! I couldn't put it down and I wanted to finish it in one evening, it had me gripped to the story. It really made me want to read on to find out what happens when Annie Valentine decides to start her own business in shoes and handbags. The results are hilarious! Her poor boyfriend doesn't even know about Annie's new business! Annie just doesn't want to tell him because she knows he just won't approve!
Enjoy this read as Annie makes surprising trips to Italy, tries starting her own business and coping with her family!
One detail in the ending made it very disappointing for me but that is the only bad thing about this book.
It doesn't have to be a Late Night Reid...
Although I didn't really enjoy the prequel to this book, The Personal Shopper, I decided I would give Carmen Reid another chance to impress with her latest release. Late Night Shopping takes us back into the world of Annie Valentines, her 2 children and her gorgeous boyfriend Ed. Annie wants to go into business on her own but Ed isn't sure. But Annie is convinced she could make it work, so decides to go ahead anyway....but with what results?

I really did enjoy this book a lot, lot more than the prequel, and I think this is because I could really lose myself in the much more interesting storyline and how the dynamics have changed between the characters. Annie was far more likeable in this, and her relationship with Ed was well written. There is a good portion of the story set in Italy and Reid has clearly done her research as it is veyr descriptive and a joy to read. I really enjoyed this one, and would recommend to anyone who loves a good bit of chick-lit, and of course Carmen Reid fans!
