Customer Reviews:
Disappointing..........
This was my first read of Carmen Reid and I don't think I'll be rushing out to buy another. It was at best ok. Totally predictable and lacked a punchy story line. In fairness I have just finished reading a trilogy by Penny Vincenzi that had so much detail and was so fablous the Personal Shopper was just a bit light for me. Certainly not a "could not put down" for me.
Manages to provide escapism, with a touch of realism
Annie Valentine is a great character. She's warm, caring, funny, and resourceful. Join her as she juggles work, with running her own business, bringing up two children as well as trying to keep a relationship going. Snapshots of Annie's work as a personal shopper are interesting - that's if you're into clothes. Occasionally, it became a little confusing as to what exactly had happened to Annie in the past, and who was who in terms of some of the secondary characters. None of this deters from what is an enjoyable story, however, and you'll find yourself rooting for Annie to make it all work. There are a few surprises along the way.
Interesting plot
This is the touching, amusing tale of Annie Valentine and her quest for love, happiness and of course the perfect outfit for every occasion. A single mother in the busy hub that is London, Annie works hard to makes sure her clients all go away happy and she can keep their children in the private school they can no longer really afford.
This is a woman who does not want to give up though. Lonely and confused all Annie wants is a man to support her through all of the tribulations she has been through since parting from the love of her life several years before.
Should she go for the rich man who can keep her in the style to which she is accustomed or is there something a little less sophistacated on the shelf for Annie? Follow the intriguing tale of her dates, dealings with her boss from hell and the running of her private business. Will this headstrong woman have to accept her single status or will she find love in the aisles yet?
I found the plot very interesting and it's a good book to unwind with at the end of a long day. However, I felt that in places there was a little ambiguity and things that the reader was seemed to have expected to know were not as clear as maybe they should have been. Overall this is a good read and one of my favourite of Reid's. Lighthearted and amusing this is one you won't want to put down right to the bitter end. Will it be a happy ending for Annie? You'll have to read it to find out.
A book I'd recommend to anyone!
This was the first Carmen Reid book I bought and I'm glad I did buy it. She creates an almost normal situation which captures and entices the reader.

At first I was a bit sceptical and couldn't really get in the first chapter. Once I had given it a chance I couldn't put it down.

However I feel that it ends too quickly but with all good books you never want them to finish!

Overall it is a good read and would recommend to anyone who wants a good chick lit book!
Everyone needs a PS like Annie Valentine...
Annie Valentine, personal shopper, mother of two, and on a dual mission to find the perfect man and the perfect outfit for every occasion... But as obstacles, memories and the dragon boss from hell get in her way, she starts to realise that sometimes substance is more important than style.
Once again, Carmen Reid has come up with a fabulous heroine: irrepressible fashionista Annie is so utterly adorable that you'll laugh, cry and root for her through every trial and tribulation. Forget gladiator sandals, Prada sunspecs and that hunky big lifeguard - The Personal Shopper will be the biggest hit on the beaches this summer.
