This book is really good for learning the basics. It needs its companion 'Uno: Libri degli Esercizi e Sintesi di Grammatica: Libro dello Studente' and the audio tapes to make full sense of the exercises laid out in the book. The only problem I see with this book is that it teaches you all about the past tenses but makes no mention of the future tenses! The dialogue and translation exercises are really useful - they teach you more coloquial italian than most courses, which is definitely going to be handy for my next trip to Italy... maybe I won't feel such a fool opening my mouth this time!
