Authentic Art Deco & Marvellous Moderne
|
The brief description didn't provide much detail about this offering from Dover, so I was thrilled to discover that it is full of wonderful designs using the pochoir stencilling process which was so popular during the nouveau & deco periods. If you are familiar with the French fashion journals of this time, you will recognise the style. These Art Modernes images were mainly used for textiles and furnishings but also pop up in book plates and wallpapers.
The first half of the book contains designs by Aug.Thomas from his Formes et Couleurs collection and the second half has George Darcy's Or et Couleurs. Both artists worked in Paris in the 1920s and their designs are mainly themed around nature with lots of stylized florals in vibrant colours (but not limited to red yellow green and orange!)
