My Mother, My Self

What an insight into the unconscious constraints that keep us acting the way we do in life. Very helpful and useful book. Perhaps Nancy Friday could be persuaded to write a follow up book which is based on the age we live in today. I ask for this because this is a book that I would certainly encourage my daughter to read, but I do however think that it is now becoming a dated book and not so many of the younger women will be able to relate to it enough to stick with it to discover its very important message. It would be very sad if the infomation in this book were lost as the years go by for this reason. Women need this book - so an updated version by somebody if not this author please!.

My Mother, Myself

This book has changed my views on my relationship with my mother and my view of myself - the title should have told me it might! After this book I am determined that my life WILL be different. A strong believer that your parents, if they love you, just do the best they know how to, I had stuggled with anger and resentment for many years, as depression. Now I can at least understand where my anger comes from, and how it came about. This means I can move on, without the need to blame either myself or my mother. Such a brilliant book. Thank you Nancy!

Wow what a book. I don't normally like books like this but this is really worth reading. Very very insightful and revealing. You'll start off thinking no that doesn't apply to me, I get on fine with my mother, I'm my own person but the more you read the more you realise how our mother's lives and hopes and thoughts have influenced us. How we don't grow up in a vacuum but are conditioned by our upbringing. I realised things I never thought I believed about women's place in society and need to get married. I plan to read this book all over again.
