Enjoyable collection of ideas
|
I agree with the earlier reviewer: this is a gold mine of interesting activities that are fun for students and excellent for learning.
The lesson ideas are well-organised; each activity is linked to a particular children's book or story (several well-told stories are included in the appendix) but it also gives recommended alternatives. In any case the activities are easily adaptable. As an aside, by looking at many of the recommended texts, I really broadened my knowledge of high quality children's literature.

Literacy was never like this when I was at school!

As a student teacher, I have found this book a really useful, practical guide; full of good, realistic ideas to try out in the classroom. The book refers to quality picture fiction throughout, which is great for a novice such as myself. As with all such books, it's best to adapt the ideas to your own class, but I think it would be beneficial for both new and experienced primary teachers, especially if literacy is not a strength.
