This is a typical example of an imaginative, creative and brilliant childrens book. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to be excited but only wants to read something that isn't too long. What a brilliant book!!

The Boy Who Was Afraid , not IS , WAS!!!!!!

I think the book is EXCELLENT although the words are rather gobbledygook, for example "purau pole and Aue."Armstrong Sperry is an excellent writer who I think has inspired plenty of young children in the second world war and helped them face their biggest fears. The book was also very short, but as many people say Short is sweet. The main characters are Mafatu,Uri the dog and Kivi the albatros.Sometimes I got a bit board but most of the times I found it very interesting.I recommend this bookfor children age 12 and upwards,so if I was you I would buy this book straight away, thats what I did.

The boy who was afraid is a brilliant book.I thought it was very interesting.I enjoy reading this book because it had load of descriptive words which really described something.I would recommend this book to someone about the age of 12 because some off the words are quite hard. This book was writen at the time of the the world war 2 for someone who is afraid. The best thing that i liked is at the end when Mafatu came home from sea and he was finally back with his father. The worst thing that happened is in chapter 4 when Uri fell of the raft into the water where a hammerhead shark was. W3e read this book in are English class in mornington high school and it took ages but it was worth it.It made some of us laugh.Iwould love to read this again.

This book was brilliant. I can definatly see this book in my collection!!! The main character was Mafatu. Mafatu was afraid of the sea his fear first started when his mother died but I won't tell you why,you can buy the book and find out for yourself!! This book was written for children in the second world war. I think Amstrong Sperry wrote The Boy Who Was Afraid to help children face their fears. The book was also at times dramatic and exciting. I read this book in my English class at Mornington High School with my English teacher Mr. Hirst.

It was interesting, but i wouldn't like to have it in my collection. This was an adventureous book.I wouldn't read it again.Mafatu was an experienced character in the wild. There was some long words in the book,i would recodmend it to a child over an a 11 - 12 year old.I thought Armstrong Sperry has got a very good imagination.A good advantage of this book is that it's funny by the way he's wrote the words.A disadvantage is that really nothing much happened he could of put more excitement in the story.
