Customer Reviews:
An easy read
This was good fun to read and helped kill a lot of otherwise dull time on aeroplanes and in airport lounges. Very easy to read and the plot line keeps the reader interested enough to turn the next page even when your flight is being called. This isn't just a book for the hardened Vegas visitor and you don't need a genius IQ to understand what the MIT students are up to, all you really need is a macabre enjoyment of reading about the casinos being taken for a fortune - it worked for me!
Unputdownable.....as they say
What a fantastic read! Ben Mezrich is a such a skilled writer - okay, he was given a great story, but he made the main character, Semyon Dukach, totally sympathetic rather than arrogant and conceited as I thought he might be and the romantic sub-plot between him and Allie was intriguing. In fact, I would have liked the book to be longer and learned more about the casino trips that didn't end in trouble. Easy to read and fascinating.
The Collection of must read Books.
The collection of Books start with Bringing down the house then Breaking Vegas and to save the Best for last Ugly Americans. These three books are a must read. Taking you through the lives of Six students on there epic adventure to Vegas. Ben Mezrich really explains the story well and it will keep you awake all night.

Breaking Begas is the next step along, it talks about Sex, Love and Violence. Easily the best book to that date and will get every Gambler out there into those Casinos.

Then there had to be Ugly Americans. The Best book I have ever read and I cant stop thinking about it. Since finishing the book I have researched all about the true stories inside the book. Great Author and Wicked books. They are all a must read. Best in the above order. Cheers
Breaking Vegas - A touch of class
i previously read bringing down the house and thought it was a first class easy read. Breaking Vegas is similar in genre but is another effortless read.

Read It.
Great book but full of lies
Ben Mezrich is a good author but I doubt the authenticity of much of his work. I believe that this is not a true story at all. Story, yes but true ? I don't think so. I base this belief on the fact that I was one of the few bj players in the UK to be using the 3 techniques outlined in the book in the late 70's and early 80's and there is absolutely no way these techniques could have been used in Vegas in the 90's. Better players than me had already used the techniques in Vegas much earlier and casinos had taken counter measures like using another card to cover the backcard.
So my feeling is that Ben has taken the techniques that were certainly used at some stage in Vegas and has woven a good story around his ideas of what could have happened. But to sell this as a true story based on some mysterious MIT students is more likely to be a pack of lies.
Its still a good yarn and worth reading.
