"Elemental Witches" series book 2
|
In "Witch Blood" we meet water witch Isabelle Novak; a woman willing to be branded a warlock (a renegade witch) if it means getting her hands on those responsible for the horrific murder of her sister Angela. Disguising both her appearance and magick Isabelle carefully integrates herself into the life of Stefan Faucheaux, the leader of the Duskoff (a warlock organisation) and the man she holds accountable for the release of the demon which tortured and drained her sister of her magick before slaughtering her. Yet finally in a position to kill this evil warlock, Isabelle's momentary lapse gives the Coven (the Duskoff's enemy) the opportunity to secure Stefan in their custody and place him on trial for the murder of several witches (events which occur in book 1 "Witch Fire").
Finally meeting Thomas Monahan; a powerful earth witch and the leader of the Coven, Isabelle finds herself working with him and other witches to hunt and destroy a demon which is targeting the magickal population; the very demon which killed Angela. The human identity of this demon is soon discovered; however he proves himself a formidable foe both physically and magickally; a seemingly unbeatable enemy until Isabelle gets up close and personal with him and accidentally discovers a hidden weakness. Although Isabelle is lucky to escape with her life, she's told by the demon himself that it's only a matter of time before he comes for her; the last witch he is required to sacrifice in order to return to his home world.
Isabelle is a wonderful heroine; ready to face her greatest fears and fight to the death if necessary, yet this strong leading lady has realistic vulnerabilities hidden beneath her tough façade. Thomas in turn is willing to fight tooth and nail for her to admit their relationship is far more than just great sex (and there's plenty of it in this book); yet with Isabelle's track record, Thomas has to admit she's not the long term relationship type and may not stick around for long. Unfortunately Isabelle has failed to realise she's fallen in love with a man who has no intention of ever letting her go; a powerful witch willing to sacrifice his own life if it ensures the safety of the woman he loves in return.
The sequel to the marvellous "Witch Fire", this book is even better than its predecessor. More is learnt of the origins of witches and warlocks and how they acquired their magickal abilities whilst the demon world is explored in greater detail. The plot line is truly gripping as the Coven battle a demon with a mentality and agenda they find difficult to understand and as the body count increases, Isabelle is left dealing with Fate's ironic timing. For the first time she finds herself falling in love, yet she's preparing to face a terrible death at the hands of a monster.
Several rather tasty male witches feature heavily, and in fact I hope either Adam or Micah get their own stories next; however I must say I am eager to learn more of the mysterious Claire. She's one of several intriguing figures who feature within the action packed story line of "Witch Blood" and her appearance certainly raises some interesting questions which I hope this author intends to answer in future works. Unfortunately there is no further information on any forthcoming "Elemental Witches" books; but lets hope AB plans to continue with this absolutely mesmerising, magical romance series.
