Customer Reviews:
If don't own this then get it now
This book is excellent in every way. The story never gets boring, and you find times when you dont want to put it down.
The way Jack Higgins makes you like Sean Dillon is really good, as Sean is up to no good you still don't want anything to go wrong for him, and you find you fall in love with his character straight away.
I'd recommend this book to anyone. Brilliant.
Exciting Story
Jack Higgins excelled himself when he fictionalised the events that lead to the 1991 mortar attack on 10 Downing Street. Sean Dillon is a character similar to The Jackal, an assassin who will do any job if the money is right, and who can change his appearance to fit the occasion. British Intelligence want this man dead and hire a killer of a similar ilk to do the job. From here a thrilling and active story ensues with a little love interest thrown in. The great read we have come to expect from the author of The Eagle has Landed and Touch the Devil.
How to write a Jack Higgins novel
Based on the evidence of this book, which I have just finished reading, the formula seems pretty simple: Take a maverick assassin with IRA connections, some East End organised crime figures one of whom must be gay, and a few token real-life figures (if John Major can be so described). Have the assassin go through a Judas gate a few times, mix well with Bushmills whiskey and a light aircraft. Add a visit to the Channel Islands and a naively adoring adolescent girl who develops an unrequited passion for the assassin. Simmer lightly for 200 pages and then, "Hey presto", another best-seller. Not totally unenjoyable, though.
Thrilling read!!
This book is Sean Dillon's first adventure, and his greatest. He has worked for the IRA, KGB, you name them he's worked for them and he's been hired to make the biggest hit of his life on the Brittish. But when his ex-friend helps the police to catch him on grounds of revenge time runs short!
Good
I think Eye of the Storm is a very exciting thriller and also a very politically sophisticated thriller. Although the plot is somewhat complicated it is a very good story and very skillfully written. Jack Higgins is a superb writer.
