Excellant view of new non perscription medicine that works

This book outlines the benefits of SAM-e for those with symptoms of depression and arthritus. In both areas the success of SAM-e treatment can be attested. SAM-e has overcome my 94 year old mother's latent depression. In two months she has changed from a case of classic old age depression to a woman who is full of energy and positive in her outlook. A 94 year old who lives independantly. I read the book at my mother's insistance and found the comments about arthritis right on the mark. Dr. Brown's suggestion that SAM-e would mitigate my symptoms has worked. In both areas, depression and arthritus, Dr. Brown's writtings have resulted in positive results that can be attested to first hand. It is must reading for anyone with one or both of these afflictions.

Great advertisement for SAM-e

But beyond that, the book fell short in providing the help or advice I was looking for. I looked it up on amazon.UK and on amazon.de, where it is not doing so well. I am grateful to the comments from the person who recommended Undoing Depression because I just picked that up and after reading the first half, I'm already feeling some hope about conquering my condition.

Great promise at great cost. Great disappointment!

This book offers hope for significant improvement of several conditions. Chief among them are depression and arthritis. The authors indicate that Sam-e is widely available at a REASONABLE COST. When I went looking for Sam-e locally, I found it in only two places in this large city, and at the doses recommended for serious problems (800 mg per day), it was prohibitively expensive. At a local GNC store it cost about $1.00 for one 200 mg capsule, and it was more expensive elsewhere (including on the internet). I don't call this reasonably priced for the average person; I call it prohibitively priced! Many will agree that this is an important point.

An interesting book about an effective alternative

Finally, a natural supplement can help restore chemical imbalances, which are the result of depression. This book explains how the body and the brain function and how the basis for a chemical balance is restored, so that finally the mind is clear to make proper decisions to heal depression at the root. Readjustment of priorities is absolutely necessary to avoid depression altogether. And along these lines I must recommend one book that has helped me temendously in my fight against depression...it's Dietmar Scherf's "I Love Me: Avoiding and Overcoming Depression"--also available at Amazon.

sam-e worked for me
|
|
I took Dr. Brown's advice and used sam-e. I had had some success in treating my chronic depression with wellbutrin, but oppressive feelings of sadness, and self-destructive ideation, remained. One week of 200mg sam-e two times daily and the oppressive feelings began to lessen. In two weeks the bad feelings had remitted completely. Though effective, sam-e was mild in its action -- I did not feel that I had been clubbed by a mega-drug. Feeling well, I am able now to have better insight into life problems linked to my long depression -- and I'm able to work on repairing family relationships that had been damaged. I recommend that anyone suffering from depression try sam-e. Reading Dr. Brown's book is an excellent way to learn about this substance.
