Having just returned from a trip to Lefkas myself (its spelling varies depending on the map !) this book made much more sense, in terms of its sweep of locations. If you're looking for a boys own adventure, in the Innes tradition you'll be disappointed. This book is a brave attempt at moving the genre on and looking at how old Innes was when he wrote it, that opinion makes more sense. In short, it's probably not what you're expecting, but you won't be disappointed. Taking in elements of paleontology, the ex-pat yachtie culture, turbulent Greek politics and much else besides, I came away impressed. Five stars ? No - if only because there are certain cranky passages which seem forced and out of place, but as a quick and dirty holiday read, you can't go far wrong.
