Customer Reviews:
The Magician
This book, the second in the series, is one of the best books I have read. The author clearly knows the streets of Paris well enough to write about them in detail as the plot unfolds across the city. What is of particular interest is the skill that Scott has of linking fact with fiction, reality with legend until they are so intertwined that the reader is in total awe.

In addition, the suspense that is created throughout the book is brilliantly worked. I struggled to put the novel down and must have finished it in record time! I recommend this wholeheartedly, but only to those that have read 'The Alchemyst' first. The Magician
really good read
I thought this book was brilliant!!It has an excellent storyline and a lot of originality. The characters are very well thought out and researched...I'd recommend it for people who loved harry potter, twilight or any fantasy book really.(-::-)
Even better than the first book...
If you liked "The Alchemyst" then chances are you may like this book even more.

Scott takes the characters we already love and know and develops them further. He also introduces clever twists on legends and monster we already know about ("every legend has a grain of truth"). If anything, the action starts quicker, the tension starts higher and keeps going...!

We are introduced to Machiavelli, who is a good riff on the Machiavelli we know from his own books and provides a great counterpoint to Dee. Some of scenes between Dee and Machiavelli provide good comedy.

We meet Joan (of Arc), Disirs (Valkyries) and see how new and old grudges and battles playout as our heroes seek to recover the Codex and discover their own destiny and powers.

More of a page turner than anything more philosophical (eg Amber SpyGlass trilogy, Alison Croggan's Pellinor books), but still in the style of "life-changing journey affecting destined childern"; recommended especially if you don't want anything too "heavy".

Sophie, Josh, Nicholas, and Scatty retreat to Paris after the disaster on the West Coast. They arrive inside the Basilique du Sacré-Coeur. For Nicholas, he's returning home, but he hasn't been there for hundreds of years. Everything's changed.

Dr. Dee hasn't wasted any time; he immediately called for reinforcements - Machiavelli is already in Paris and waiting for them. With Sophie's newly awakened powers, they are able to escape. Nicholas leads them to the home of his old student. There, they regroup, rest, and recharge.

Once Dr. Dee arrives in Paris things begin to happen. He wants to capture the twins plus the last two pages of the codex, and he's willing to do anything to catch them.

The twins fight back, along with Nicholas, Scatty, Francis, and Joan of Arc. Together they make a stand, but is it enough to stop the powerful Magician?

Michael Scott blends mystery, fantasy, and history perfectly together into an adrenaline-filled, addicting novel.

Great read - not just for kids!
I read this following on from "The Alchemyst" and really enjoyed it. It's very cleverly written and well researched - it is set in Paris with obvious effort being taken from Scott to accomplish an accurate novel. I also loved the historical snippets that were planted throughout - even down to names and identities of various Dark Elders and guardians. Suberbly done, with a nice feel to the book as I was reading - I really felt as if I was watching the progress of the pages in front of me. I cannot wait for the next one to come out!
