Customer Reviews:
In the mind of a genius
Like many more before, I must admit I discovered the genius of Andy Kaufman through 'Man On The Moon', though i wish it had been far sooner.
Lost In The Funhouse is a great example of good biography writing, it doesn't gross out by revealing things you probably would rather not know about someone you admire, but then it also refuses to gloss over the negative to the extent that so many do.
At times written in the style of Kaufman himself, this is a detailed a suprisingly personal account of the life of comic genius. Well worth a look.
Anybody with an interest in Kaufman will love this book.
After watching the Jim Carrey movie 'Man in the Moon' I found myself interested in Andy Kaufman, who I previously knew nothing about. I happened upon this book shortley after, and having finished it I can say that I was extemely pleased that I did. It covered everything in the movie and more, and in greater detail. The subject matter is obviously very interesting and I found it an inspiring read. I love the idea of Kaufmans inhibition and lack of restraint, which he constantley demonstrated throughout his life. He seemed to live life exactley as he wanted to and made a lot of people happy doing so, as well as upsetting some along the way, and confusing many others. He really was a free spirit in the most basic sense of the word. Weather this was a consequence of mental instabilitie or genius is debatable, and having finished the book I still am not sure which it was.
As well as being a colourfull character to write about, the book is also very well written and well balanced from start to finish and never suffers from slow down, or any period of Kaufmans life that could be considered boring or uneventfull.
I would recommend this to anybody with even a passing interest in Andy Kaufman or comedy in general. I can see where some of todays 'Zany' comediens, such as Carey, get there inspiration.
explosivly shows the mind of the greatest comic in the world
This book gives a view in to the mind of Kaufman. It shows you the real Kaufman rather than just the performer that is shown in "man on the moon" This gives you the story from birth and how he grew into the business. It is a great read that will have you captivated and desperate to find more about the crazy world of Kaufman
