From a Scottish teacher of English

Some useful explanations of spelling rules, and exercises for practising, but very heavily American, particularly in referring to pronunciation, as well as the usual differences from UK spelling and usage. Some explanations of rules seem unnecessarily complicated, when simpler ones exist eg for doubling final consonants. May be useful for extension work but some exercises may puzzle UK pupils.

This is an excellent book for learning spelling skills.

I used this book as a spelling curriculum when homeschooling my 12-14 year old sons. Rather than having children memorize lists of words, it actually focuses on the rules and skills needed to spell ANY word. The chapters were well-organized and the exercises were effective. Since completing the book, we have been using it as a reference.
