A SAGA OF HOPE,STRENGtH & BONDS
|
In "THE LORIMER LINE" Melville draws upon the depth within her characters and gives life to her works through their trials and triumphs. Margaret Lorimer overcomes personal insecurity, the prejudices of her society to rise to a position of respect in the medical field. She also had to deal with personal tragedies , betrayal, death and loss of her inheritance but she discovered a legacy of bloodbonds in Alexa ;her half sister, Charles her son and the will to survive. Anne Melville's work is like a play on stage which delivers a sound satisfactory performance; it points the way to correction whilst reminding us that we carry seeds of imperfection with us, in us and this imperfection goes on forever.

Read it if you can get hold of it!

This is the first of the Lorimer books by Anne Melville. It charts the fortunes of a Bristol shipping and banking family during the later half of the nineteenth century, focusing particularly on the daughter Margaret Lorimer as she endeavors to defy the social conventions of the day and become a doctor. It is gripping, and left me impatient to obtain a copy of the next book in the series, so that I might find out what happened to Margaret and her family.
