"A rattling poor read"
|
A real shock to read this book having read much of her later stuff. The story line is really weak. Characters appear from nowhere. There is no character development. It's set in England but I think the author had never been and only knew of an England seen in Pre-war films. The love scenes (which appear out of nowhere - even in life threatening situations)feel like they have been written by a 13 year old who has overdosed on Mills & Boon. If I were the author I would bury this.
Its one redeeming feature is that it might encourage budding authors to persevere. If you write as badly as this in your early years - think what you can achive later on.
