Customer Reviews:
Brilliant!
This book is amazing. I read it whilst I was pregnant as I'd had very little experience looking after babies, and was worried I wouldn't know what to do! It covers EVERYTHING and is very easy to read.

When my baby was born I found it invaluable to have around and kept dipping in and out at the relevant chapters. The method is very loving and gentle for your baby, and helps your baby to gain confidence and independence. There is a really useful section about crying and body language, and how to learn what the different cries and movements mean. I found that within days I knew exactly why my baby was crying and what to do. Then I learnt to watch her body language and most of the time now I can predict what she wants before she starts crying!

The Eat Activity Sleep You-time (EASY) routine works with our lifestyle. It's a routine that is more about order than time, so you aren't clock watching all day.

I can't praise this book enough, and I can't understand how other people know what to do with a baby without reading it!!!
Reassuring
I'll be a mum in June: me and my partner were very upset about the all thing, it was unexpected, we were unprepared and scared...
This book has been a good "hand on the shoulder", I hope I will be able to use all the advices and I feel more confident regarding breastfeed, now.

It should be recommended in antenatal classes, is full with useful tips.
Forget Gina Ford...
This is a great book for new mums - very positive, reassuring and helpful, but also compulsive reading! Tracy Hogg's compassionate approach to crying babies and their concerned mums is a breath of fresh air after all the rhetoric of controlled crying. I didn't believe it was right to leave my baby to cry - even for a short time - and this book gave me the confidence to parent the way I wanted to without feeling neurotic and, importantly, whilst knowing I was in fact creating a bond of trust.

By detailing the various baby types (my first was an Angel but my second was definitely Spirited!) and how best to handle them, Tracy Hogg restores a feeling of control to frazzled parents.

The E.A.S.Y. parenting schedule gives baby the routine she requires whilst not imposing an inflexible system on the mother... you watch the baby, not the clock! But it's not all about the structure, it's about 'tuning in' to your individual baby's needs and identifying the signs of hunger, boredom, tiredness et al before the crying starts. Forget Gina Ford... this lady loves babies and it shows.

Ideal for first time and repeat parents
I have read and re-read this book many times - for both my first and second child. It encourages you to see your baby as an individual from the first day, to look and understand how he or she is trying to communicate with you. As you get into practise, following the down-to-earth advice, your baby becomes clearer. With my second child, I found this allowed me time to enjoy my baby, without worry over 'too much' crying, etc. For first time parents, reading this before you baby is born will allow you time to think about how you want to parent your child. It isnt just about getting your baby to sleep. It is about enjoying those vital early months, communicating with your baby, and watching their fascinating development take place.
Not perfect but saved my sanity
The main emphasis of this book; a flexible routine that makes sure your baby avoids getting so tired that it just cries and cries, is very valuable and I found the techniques for getting an overtired baby to sleep invaluable. All babies are different, but by using the techniques in this book, ours was sleeping through (7.30 til 7.00) at about 7-8 weeks old and now at 6 months, he still does.

Some of the language is a little odd (I get the impression the luv and ducky business is to emphasise quaint Britishness to an American audience) and the cries could be better described - include a CD next time? ;) but I'd still recommend the book. I much preferred it's style

I think the emphasis on formula being "non-evil" is a useful counterpoint to all the (justifiable) pro-breat propaganda that we are assaulted with.
