Good with a niggle

The book's well written but there are two things which annoy me about this book and the series in general. Firstly, the aliens pretty much suck. The marines are virtually immune to the aliens weapons and you never really think that the human race is under threat by this bunch of water pistol-weilding lizards. Thats right, the only gun the greatest threat these marines have ever faced are only armed with friggin' acid guns with a range far more limited the the plasma guns the good guys carry. Even their tanks only have these gunk guns! This is certainly an area where the writer lacks imagination. My second qualm is that the marines never seem to carry grenades which would oh so valuable for those times when they're in the caves. It might be set a few hundred years in the future but whatever happened to the good old fashioned 'open, flash and clear'?

Well as an avid fan of the starfist series i was really glad to get me mitts on this book as it promised to bring some life back to the series as it had gotten little stale. And boy did it But the only thing is in this the marines get there ass's kicked, but in true marine fashon they start to get back in the action. This book brings to light that even the marines can get a kick in the bum, and it shows some of the characters in a new light, all in all its a great book and if you've read the rest read this and if you aint get and read them then get on with this 1!!
